Historic Day for Hope Abbey Mausoleum

hope abbeyEUGENE, Ore. — A historic building at the Eugene Masonic Cemetery is re-opening to the public just in time for Memorial Day.

The Hope Abbey Mausoleum celebrated its 100th Anniversary Saturday with a re-dedication. The Egyptian-styled mausoleum is open all weekend for tours, refreshments, and various activities. Flags will also fly on all veterans’ graves.

Organizers say they are looking forward to showing off the mausoleum because a lot of hard work went into restoring it.

“We put a lot of work and a lot of thought into it and I encourage people to come out and see what a jewel we have. It’s just a wonderful landscape. This piece of history that we’re still working on to see this right here sort of hidden,” said Sally Dietrich with the Eugene Masonic Cemetery.

A celebration ceremony is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
