Holiday Shipping Deadlines Looming

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The clock is ticking to get your holiday gifts to your loved ones in time for Christmas morning.

It’s too late to ship parcel post through the U.S. Postal Service, but you can still send gifts through first class, priority or express.

If you want to get a present to someone serving in the military, Dec. 17 is the deadline.

At lunch Monday, the line wrapped around the lobby at the Gateway Post Office.

“We’re going to be doing almost double the cancellations we normally do. Normally we do about 180,000 cancellations. Here at the plant it’s going to be 350,000 to 360,000,” said Paul Bastinelli, Eugene Postmaster.

The postmaster’s advice is to make sure all your packages are wrapped, addressed and ready to go when you get up to the counter.
