The house had extensive fire damage in the living room and smoke damage throughout the house. Fire crews say when they arrived at the home on South 34th Place, there were flames and smoke coming out of the window.
“The fire was knocked down within five minutes after our arrival and an extinguishing about five minutes later. We had full control over the fire within ten minutes,” said Dana Burwell, battalion chief from Springfield Fire.
Investigators say there were three people in the home at the time of the fire who all made it out safely.
The cause is still under investigation.
