EUGENE, Ore. — A fundraiser to send local World War II veterans on an honor flight proved successful. There was a huge turnout for Sunday’s spaghetti dinner at the Veterans building in Eugene.
The South Willamette Valley Honor Flight is organizing a trip for 28 veterans in October. Many veterans showed up for the dinner, including Arthur Krantz, who has been on an honor flight and wants over World War II veterans to see it for themselves.
“It’s the greatest experience I think I’ve ever had, and the only thing I can say is there is no honor in war. War is no glory,” Krantz said.
Organizers say they needed to raise four thousand dollars to fund the trip and they are on track to do so. Contributions have helped, but they still need to raise money for the more than 60 veterans currently on the honor flight wait list.
