New Orleans, LA (CNN) — People in Louisiana are dealing with a weather disaster. Hurricane Isaac made landfall in Plaquemines Parish Tuesday night and has been socking residents with brutal winds and heavy rains ever since.
Emergency management officials report water has overtopped an 18-mile stretch of the back levee in the parish. The National Weather Service of New Orleans says this will mean severe flooding in the area.
Heavy waters have already left some families trapped. A local news station reports parish deputies are fighting the wind and rain to get boats out to rescue people.
