SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Representatives from the Community Alliance of Lane County gathered in Springfield Tuesday, holding a sign over Interstate 5 that displayed an anti-hate message.
CALC says it’s their response to a sign hung in the same place last week. It says that sign included a white pride symbol and was “hateful and racist”.
Members of the group, along with others who shared their views, came together to send a different message.
“I think that it’s really important to respond to any hate speech that occurs around here in a positive way, respond and let people know that we don’t tolerate hate,” said community organizer Tonya Valdez.
The group gathered on the pedestrian and bike bridge near the Gateway Mall holding a large sign that read “Respect All. No Hate Here”.
