Injured Woman Remains in Hospital

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A woman injured in a crash in Springfield Tuesday night is still in the hospital.

Officers say a semi-truck hit the woman as she crossed Gateway Loop and dragged her for about 50 feet. Police say the driver didn’t realize he hit someone.

Officers call that area a trouble spot.

“The Gateway area does have a higher number of accidents in Springfield, based on my career, what I’ve seen. I don’t know how significantly higher than other areas in the city. But again, it’s an area with a really high density of vehicle traffic and pedestrian traffic,” said Sgt. John Umenhofer, Springfield Police Department.

Officers are still investigating, but they don’t think alcohol was a factor.
