SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The city of Springfield is trying to clean up a dangerous rental home.
Building inspectors posted signs on the property Monday declaring it “unsafe to occupy.”
The two issues they focused on are the plumbing and electrical systems.
The tenants who lived there until Friday complained about sewage backing up into the bathroom and exposed live wires. The property owner is now responsible for the repairs.
“He’ll have 20 days to pull the permits to fix those two main issues. After that, a licensed contractor would have to come in and do that work for him,” said city spokesperson Niel Laudati.
The tenants have since moved out.
The city of Springfield encourages anyone with concerns about their rental unit to call the building department and ask about an inspection.
