The judge denied the request because other defendants facing similar charges wouldn’t be allowed to leave the state, and they couldn’t make any special exceptions. Lyerla wanted to attend a training camp there to prepare for the professional scouting combine next year.
Deputies say they arrested Lyerla in October after they caught him snorting what appeared to be cocaine. He declined to enter the drug treatment program, which would have wiped the charges from his record.
According to the DA’s office, Lyerla’s trial is set for March 18, 2014.
