EUGENE, Ore. — A federal judge denied the National Organization for Marriage’s request to intervene in a same-sex marriage case Wednesday morning.
The judge will not let the group defend Oregon’s ban against same-sex marriage in a court setting.
Judge Michael McShane heard arguments from the National Organization for Marriage at the federal courthouse in Eugene. The group asked the judge to let them defend the voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage.
The National Organization for Marriage says it is filing an appeal against the judge’s ruling.
Judge McShane said the group can’t intervene with the Oregon case because it waited too long to file a counter suit.
He said this is an Oregon case, so it will stay in Oregon.
Same-sex marriage supporters hope for a quick decision.
Judge McShane has not said when his ruling will happen.
