Jury Convicts Jimenez

Jimenez 1ALBANY, Ore. — After a few hours of deliberating, a Linn County jury found 20-year-old Jesse Jimenez guilty of multiple charges in an assault case.

Prosecutor Heidi Sternhagen says Jimenez helped his friend, 18-year-old Trevin King, assault Ronald Whitehead of Lebanon in August, then stole his bike. Whitehead, 49, has cerebral palsy.

King pleaded guilty to Assault II and no contest to Robbery I in February, when he was sentenced to 10 years of prison. A 12-person jury convicted Jimenez on Wednesday on the same charges.

Doctors also testified on Wednesday, saying Whitehead will never recover from his brain injuries.¬†Whitehead’s family members were in the courtroom during the two-day trial, and say they are relieved that it is over.

“It’s going to make going to see Ron a little easier, knowing that this part is over now,” said Alan Wise, Whitehead’s brother. ” And now we can focus on his care.”

Jimenez’s family declined to comment.
