Prosecutor Heidi Sternhagen says Jimenez helped his friend, 18-year-old Trevin King, assault Ronald Whitehead of Lebanon in August, then stole his bike. Whitehead, 49, has cerebral palsy.
King pleaded guilty to Assault II and no contest to Robbery I in February, when he was sentenced to 10 years of prison. A 12-person jury convicted Jimenez on Wednesday on the same charges.
Doctors also testified on Wednesday, saying Whitehead will never recover from his brain injuries. Whitehead’s family members were in the courtroom during the two-day trial, and say they are relieved that it is over.
“It’s going to make going to see Ron a little easier, knowing that this part is over now,” said Alan Wise, Whitehead’s brother. ” And now we can focus on his care.”
Jimenez’s family declined to comment.
