Kelly Middle School Unveils New Mascot

EUGENE, Ore. — Kelly Middle School unveiled its new mascot Friday.

Originally named after a World War II bomber pilot, Captain Colin P. Kelly II, the school decided to change its mascot from the Bombers to the Pilots.

Although there were never any complaints about the old mascot, teachers requested the change to make the mascot more inclusive to everyone.

The transition to the new mascot will be slow, but people will start to notice the changes by the spring.

“We will be reflecting the name change on the track and field T-shirts that the kids will be sporting this season,” said Jose Da Silva, Kelly Middle School Principal.

The principal unveiled a new bust of Colin Kelly to the school during an assembly today in honor of the change.
