EUGENE, Ore. — Thanks to Kendall Auto Group, a local charity has a new set of wheels. Kendall Subaru wrapped up its 12 Days of Caring, by giving away a two year lease for a new 2014 Subaru Outback to ShelterCare.
The non-profit was one of several charities entered into a drawing. ShelterCare already has big plans for the new ride. Directors say the Subaru Outback was given to a community health worker who serves those with mental illnesses.
“She is trying to help them overcome barriers to getting the help they need. She needs to transport them to appointments. We have not had a good vehicle to use. We’re thrilled to have a vehicle for her,” says ShelterCare Development Director Lucy Vinis.
There were nine finalists for the drawing.
“We appreciate all the other agencies that participated in this. They are all wonderful and if we had a Subaru to give away to each and every one of them, we would have,” says Kendall Communications Relations Specialist Chelsey Lee.
The community was involved in the process, too. For every vote provided on Kendall’s Facebook page, the charity earned an extra entry into the drawing.
