The students from Kennedy Middle School qualified for the state tournament last month.
Using the Lego robots, the team has to create a solution to a problem caused by a natural disaster. The Kennedy team chose roof collapse from volcanic ash, specifically Mt. St. Helens. It’s all about teamwork.
“We’ve got fantastic designers. We’ve got fantastic programmers and kids that are really good at communicating,” said teacher Nancy Vrijmoet.
“I think it’s good for all of us to be able to work as a team to come up with solutions to problems from the board to problems in real life,” said eighth grader Emily Westlund.
Kennedy has had Lego robotics teams since 2007, and this is their first year qualifying for the state tournament.
