EUGENE, Ore. — Street sweepers and a fire truck — they’re machines Eugene Public Works crews get to use every day.
But Thursday, about fifteen-hundred local kids got a chance to sit behind the wheel or do a little climbing during the 21st Annual Public Works Day.
Local schools and organizations say they look forward to the event every year.
“A lot of the teachers plan their curriculum about it, like weeks before, so they know they’ll be seeing fire trucks, construction trucks, and other kinds of trucks,” said Relief Nursery supervisor Jesse Hernandez.
Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy was also there and remembers attending the event years ago when she was a school teacher.
