EUGENE, Ore. — Kids got a chance to learn about what it takes to maintain the city of Eugene on Thursday.
About 1,200 kids took a field trip to the utility yard off Roosevelt to celebrate Public Works Day. They got to check out all the different equipment needed to manage wastewater and stormwater. They also learned what it takes to build and fix streets, take care of city parks and run the Eugene airport.
Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy was one of about 50 tour guides walking kids and visitors through the displays.
