EUGENE, Ore. — Folks gathered for a big celebration in the King Estate vineyards Saturday.
After five long years, winery owner Ed King’s green project is officially complete.
While the more than 4,000 solar panels were up and running at the end of last year, on Saturday King and his partners celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
King said the project was a logical one considering their history of green business.
“I think our commitment to organic and sustainability came from the realization that this is really the only way to do business. It’s just the way things were done 100 years ago,” King said.
The new system will produce enough energy to offset the power usage of 100 residential homes.
