Organizers and participants say it’s something they work up to all year long, and though the first day of set up is busy and symbolic, as the next week rolls on the chaos of set-up will snowball.
Today, hundreds trickled in and out of the building to finish the basic framework and displays as well as to enter their handmade art and textiles in hopes of ringing in a blue ribbon come next week. Participants in the competitions range from ages 2 to 92.
Locals enter everything from handmade paintings to arts and crafts. One group was even setting up a birdhouse condominium. Organizers say the art department has grown and flourished over the years.
This week workers will continue plugging away on mostly internal set-ups as well as allow entries for exhibits will continue.
Organizers are encouraging Lane County residents to head on down if you have a piece of handmade art that you’d like to compete with as they are still accepting entries.
