EUGENE, Ore. — Thousands of competitive skaters and their family and friends drifted in and out of the Lane County Ice Center this weekend. In the last two years staff affiliated with the rink say it has come a long way, from financial woes, to hosting the Northwest Pacific Regional Championship. It’s the largest event the center has ever hosted. So far staff say ticket sales are impressive and this year’s championship includes about 50 more ice skaters than usual. They hope the event will solidify the Lane County Ice Centers role in the community and beyond.
