Learning How to Prepare for Disasters

EUGENE, Ore. — Hundreds of people spent Saturday afternoon learning how to prepare for natural disasters.

It was all part of an event put on at Alton Baker Park to raise awareness to the possibility of a disaster hitting the area. The Red Cross, Northwest Natural, and other disaster relief companies joined together to educate the community.

Organizers said everyone should be ready if an earthquake were to rattle the area. “We have two bridges on either side of our community, so if those bridges went down in an earthquake, you’d see the grocery store shelves bare in no time whatsoever,” said Kip Much, spokesperson for Northwest Natural.

Event organizers said families should always have enough food stocked up to last for a week.
