EUGENE, Ore. — The Big Read program at the Eugene Public Library is just around the corner, and this year it received a generous grant from National Endowment for the Arts.

The Eugene Public Library is one of 77 organizations nationwide to receive the $16,000 grant. With that, they’re able to throw events and give away this year’s book, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

It’s widely considered one of the most important books in American literature and everyone is encouraged to read it together next month. They can also participate in community events that will bring the book alive. Those include dramatic presentations, jazz music, dancing and flapper costumes.

Eugene Public Library’s major partners in the Big Read are Springfield Public Library, local schools and Oregon Contemporary Theater, which will present the play, “The Great Gatsby.”

Last year, thousands of people participated in the Big Read. If you would like to join, you can pick up The Great Gatsby at the downtown library or at any of the branches. You can also pick it up at the Springfield Public Library.
