Pay Off Library Fines With Canned Food

Food for Library FinesCORVALLIS, Ore. — Some local library branches are giving folks a chance to pay off some library fines with several cans of food this week as part of the annual Food for Fines program.

The Corvallis-Benton County Public Library branches are accepting canned and boxed food donations to pay off up to $5 worth of fines. One can of food or boxed item equals $1 in library fines.

The library is teaming up with the Linn-Benton Food Share to fight hunger. Last year, the library collected 2,130 pounds of food.

“Many people donate around the holidays, but this time of year some of their stores start to get kind of low,” said Carolyn Rawles-Heiser, Library Director. “So it’s a good time to remind people that there’s always need year-round,”

You can take advantage of the program until this Saturday at all branches, including community libraries in Alsea, Corvallis, Philomath, and Monroe.
