Local Birth Center Receives Grant

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A local birthing center is being recognized for its efforts to deliver babies at full term.

The PeaceHealth Medical Group Nurse Midwifery Birth Center is the only center of its kind in the state to get a cut of a more than $5 million grant. That money will help cover the costs of enhanced prenatal care for women at risk of a preterm birth.

“We’re very pleased and excited to be part of that program, and we’re excited to be able to participate and help other birth centers across the country prevent preterm birth,” said Michele Peters-Carr, Certified Nurse Midwife.

Birth center maternity care is focused on the needs of the woman and her family and is a time-intensive, relationship-based style of care that employs evidence-based care, health education and emotional support.
