EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene man had a particularly hard time when he heard about the shooting at Seattle Pacific University because his daughter is in her senior year there. She wasn’t too far from the incident.
Lilyanna Diama will graduate next week. Her father, Curtis, says you always worry when your children are away at school, but Thursday’s phone call was entirely different.
“For me it was surreal,” he said. “I just felt my whole body well up with emotion to hear her say that she was safe. It really knocked me down, physically. I just dropped into the chair.
Diama said his daughter first ran to a school building, but the doors were locked. She then ran to her boyfriend’s apartment where they watched the events unfold on television.
