Local Firm Chosen to Design City Hall

EUGENE, Ore. — A local architecture firm has been chosen to design the new city hall.

Rowell Brokaw Architects of Eugene was awarded the job on Friday, beating Portland firm THA Architecture. Rowell says it has been involved in the process ever since the city first began discussing the plan 15 years ago and even though the competition was stiff, the company remained confident throughout the application process.

John Rowell says his company’s local approach is what earned it the contract. “We’ve been downtown, we’re invested in downtown,” he said. “I think we’re a young, open, exciting firm with that open approach, that research-based approach.”

The City of Eugene wasn’t available to comment on Friday’s decision, but Rowell Brokaw says the community should see a finished product by 2015.
