Local Jail Escapee Charges with Assault

Thomas Grimes, the man who escaped from the Douglas County Jail, has been charged with crimes committed while he was on the run.

Grimes pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police.

The Springfield man was arrested in July after he had twice slipped away from officers in the weeks following his escape.

Grimes was sentenced in September for the escape charges and will spend more than seven years in prison.
