Local Leaders Discuss Economic Progress

EUGENE, Ore. — Businesses and community leaders met Thursday to talk about economic progress in Lane County.

The Regional Prosperity Summit was held at the Ford Alumni Center on the University of Oregon campus.

Speakers say the county’s economy has shifted since the last summit during the recession in 2009. The unemployment rate has declined, and downtown Eugene and Springfield have seen significant revitalization.

Eugene Chamber of Commerce President David Hauser says the county has a number of strengths.

“I think everybody has talked a great deal about the quality of life in the region, our geographic location, the diversity of our local economy,” Hauser said.

The summit is a joint effort between Eugene and Springfield, Lane County, the U of O and the Chambers of Commerce.
