EUGENE, Ore. — A group of local Marines reunited with their families Friday.
The men were greeted at the airport by three local VFW posts, freedom rider volunteers and then escorted to the reserve center by many law enforcement officers.
Spencer Curtman, Chris Norris, Ben Nelson and Master Sgt. Richard Thomas spent the last seven months in Afghanistan. They said the greeting and support was amazing, but the best part was obviously seeing their families when they arrived at the reserve center.
Master Sgt. Nelson is actually from Springfield and based here regularly and wasn’t scheduled to go on this tour until the last minute, so he seemed particularly happy to be back.
The men are taking part in some hugs and good old American food they say they’ve been looking forward too, and then they’ll have four days leave and spend the rest of their reserve time in Springfield.
