Local Post Offices Hiring for Holidays

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Lately the post office has been in the news regarding talk of closures, but we have some good news to report on the hiring front.

The U.S. Postal Service is hiring for its holiday mailing season. It’s adding 15 people just in the Springfield-Eugene area.

You must be 18 years old at the time of hire and some of these will be the late night shifts. You also need to be physically fit because some packages can weigh up to 70 pounds and it’s a pretty labor intense job. Also, you may have to work out on the dock in December, which can get pretty cold.

The deadline to apply is October 31, but the Eugene facility needs to fill two spots immediately.

“It gets really crazy, really crazy packages especially the last couple of years our packages have really been growing big time and we do have a machine that sorts them, but the spirit back there is just wonderful,” said Postal Service employee Mabel Tagwerker.

Most of the new hires will work from after Thanksgiving through January. Workers say they’re glad they’ll get some extra helpers this holiday season.
