SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Like a lot of us, Raquel Ivie started driving at the age of 16, only she drove faster than most.
At 16 she was racing at Douglas County Speedway.
This week Ivie and her car will be in front of More of Everything inside the Gateway Mall in Springfield.
A Bi-Mart pharmacist during the day, Ivie recently won five races and drove away with the Northwest Extreme Series Sprint Car Championship. She’s the second woman in 60 years at Cottage Grove Speedway to do it.
“It’s a lot of work but it keeps me busy all the time, and it’s a blast, total adrenaline rush, it’s fun, obviously winning is worth it,” Ivie said.
Racing is in her blood. Her dad used to race back in the ’90s and got her into go-cart racing at an early age.
