Local Stars Take Stage at Benton Co.Fair

American YoungCORVALLIS, Ore. — The Benton County fair wrapped up day one on Wednesday – with some local names taking the stage.

American Young headlined Wednesday’s show. Jon Stone, one of the two lead singers, is from the Eugene area. The band has performed on some pretty big stages – including an appearance on ABC’s “The Bachelorette” this season during one of Andi’s dates with Josh. But according to Stone, performing in the Willamette Valley┬áis unlike any other area.

“You know, they say half your life you try to get out of your hometown, and the other half trying to get back,” he said. “And I think this is – you know – to be back here in this capacity is wonderful.”

Jackson Michelson opened for American Young on Wednesday – an upcoming country star from Corvallis.

One message from both performers? To dream big.

“Big things can come out of Corvallis,” Michelson said. “It’s been awesome. And so many people have encouraged me along the way and told me: ‘Hey you can do this.’ We have a great football team here – but that’s not all. The things that can come out of this area and out of this school system is amazing.”

In Monday’s finale of The Bachelorette, Josh proposed to Andi. American Young told KEZI 9 News on Wednesday that the producers of the show want the band to perform at the couple’s wedding – but no date has yet been set.
