Local Wine Reaches Japan

Rogue Valley wineJACKSONVILLE, Ore. – A Rogue Valley winery is about to make its debut in Japan. And it’s all thanks to what the owners call a fortuitous business meeting.

The owners of Valley View Winery inked the deal while at an event at the Costco headquarters in Issaquah, Washington. The Valley View owners say the general merchandiser for the Costco Japan had never heard of the Rogue Valley, but tried the wine and agreed to pick up 600 cases for all 20 of their stores in the country.

This is by the far the farthest move for the winery, which until now only sold in Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho.

“Four states and Japan,” said co-owner Mike Wisnovsky. “So the wine will be in 13 buildings in Oregon and 20 in Japan.”

The winery will have three wines sold at Costco Japan — the Rogue Valley Red, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.

This makes Valley View the first winery in the entire state to sell wines in Japan without an importer.
