Longboarder Injured in Car Crash

EUGENE, Ore. — A collision between a longboarder and a Volkswagon Beetle on East Harris and 20th Street has resulted in the longboarder being taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend for serious injuries.

The collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. and Eugene Police quickly closed down a four-block section.

The car was heading south on Harris, but the direction of the longboarder is not determined. There is a steep hill heading west on 20th, but police cannot confirm that he was heading in that direction.

Eugene police officials were at the scene and say they are worried about more such accidents.

“You know, there’s a large popularity with these boards now. They’d like to make it a law here in Eugene that you can ride these on the streets now. It’s already being done illegally, so I think there’s a chance of it going through,” said Sgt. Jim Bell, Eugene Police Department.

As of five o’clock, there is no update on the longboarder’s condition.
