Lowell Boxer Wins National Competition

LOWELL, Ore. — A five-sport star from Lowell, south of Springfield is in the fast track to big things in the ring.

Akayla Devereaux just returned from winning a national tournament for Native Americans this past week. She’s only been boxing for four months, but she spent almost every day training for this tournament

The national tournament was her first competition. And although she hasn’t been in the ring long, she felt prepared.

“When I showed up, I knew that I put the hard work in, and I had a lot of confidence, and I just knew that I worked the hardest when I walked in,” Devereaux said.

Even though boxing is her current sport of choice, she says she won’t be giving up basketball, softball, volleyball, or track anytime soon.

Next up, she’s off to Missouri to compete in a world boxing tournament.
