LTD Launches Self-Steering Bus

EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane Transit District launched its newest bus that can steer itself Monday.

Along the bus’s route, LTD installed magnetic strips, which allows the driver to not worry about steering. Even though there are the magnetic strips, there’ll still be a driver behind the wheel of the bus.

LTD says it doesn’t think any passengers will notice the change.

“They may notice that the bus is docked at the station a little closer and a little bit more evenly, but I would say most passengers just getting on and off aren’t really going to notice it or think about it,” said Ron Kilcoyne, LTD General Manager.

The magnetic strips allow the bus to park closer to the curb than most drivers can get, which LTD says will make it safer for people to get on and off of the bus.

“Most passengers will not be able to notice the change”. That’s if you don’t notice the fact that there is no bus driver up front.

it will likely be an improvement. Bus drivers force you off the road, run over people and generally use their size to do what they want.

I applaud LTD in it’s forward thinking and acting, improving the quality of transportation
    life for central Lane County.

Keep at it for the greater good!

Nuts to the pervasive misinformed, tax cheap, self-absorbed, loser hatemongerers, so persistent for too long in this part of the world.
