Eugene, Ore.– A local non-profit organization that advocates for Latino civil rights is celebrating a milestone.
The League of United American Citizens, or LULAC, created the Young Adult Council. It’s the first of its kind in Oregon and it’s open to young adults in Lane County.
The goal of this council is to guide youth towards a successful future. They will learn to be better activists, public speakers, and role models through service in the community, education, and leadership development.
“We want to keep our kids away from trouble. We want to keep them engaged by keeping them in school. They’re the driving force of tomorrow, if not today,” said LULAC Council President Juan Carlos Valle.
The program will be funded through fundraisers and donations. The Youth Council is accepting applications. The primary focus is on Latinos, but the program is open to all youth between the ages of 13 and 20. Click here for the application.
