SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A convicted rapist is back in jail, accused of sexually assaulting a young woman this weekend, at the Gateway Mall, and police are trying to find out if there are more victims.
Springfield police say 27-year-old Brexin Reed Shulz lured her into a bathroom Saturday morning.
Police say a young woman in her mid-20s contacted mall security at around 11 a.m. Saturday, saying she had been sexually assaulted. Police say she was lured into a unisex family bathroom in the mall that can be locked.
Springfield police say with the help of mall security they were able to track down Shulz and arrest him. Shulz is a convicted rapist and registered sex offender.
Police say it’s important to always be aware of your surroundings.
“You just never can be too trusting of people. It’s not a frequent occurrence but there’s a lot of people who are convicted sex offenders wandering around in society anyone has to do is look on the internet and see that,” said Sgt. Dave Lewis, Springfield Police Department.
Shulz is in the Lane County Jail, facing charges of sodomy and unlawful sexual penetration. He was convicted in 2003 of attempted rape and burglary in the first degree.
Springfield police say it wasn’t someone she knew and the victim was waiting for a ride before Shulz lured her into the bathroom.
