LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A man is in custody after a bizarre incident on Interstate 5 Tuesday afternoon.
Oregon State Police say the man rammed his car into a school bus and then took off his pants as he tried to get into the bus.
There weren’t any kids onboard.
OSP says it all started around 1:45 in the afternoon in the northbound lanes of I-5 near Creswell.
Police say they received reports of a car that had stopped on the freeway in front of a school bus, then tried to ram it intentionally.
Troopers also heard reports the man had taken off his pants and was trying to get inside the bus.
They say when they arrived on scene, they saw the man’s car but he sped off, leading them on a short chase before driving his car into the water.
“The suspect then lost control of his vehicle, went off of the roadway here to the east, and collided with this fence and into this canal,” said Sergeant Lang Hinkle with Oregon State Police.
The driver was able to get out of the car and was OK.
Troopers took him into custody and drove him to the Lane County Jail.
Police don’t yet know if he was under the influence of anything.
The suspect’s name has not been released.
