Man Dies in Highway 99 Crash

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. — A Eugene man died Friday night in a car accident near Junction City.

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers said Patrick McGuirk was driving northbound on Highway 99 when a car tried to turn left from Awbrey Lane onto the highway and collided with his truck.

McGuirk was hospitalized for serious injuries. His passenger, 45-year-old David Thom died in the accident. The driver of the second car Gregory Garn was not injured.

“Even though it’s raining and though weather can sometimes play a role in crashes occurring, it’s still, for the most part, comes down to driver responsibility,” said Lt. Gregg Hastings, OSP Public Information Officer.

The crash is still being investigated.
