Man Dies in Springfield Crash

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened in Springfield Monday morning.

Springfield police officers were called to a single-vehicle crash at Pioneer Parkway East, south of Hayden Bridge Road at around 5 a.m.

Police say a man was driving a 1997 Honda north at a high speed when he left the roadway and ran into a tree. They say the car then traveled back onto the road and stopped. They say the driver died at the scene.

Police say he was a 50-year-old white male. His name has not been released.

They are also looking for the man’s 13-year-old black female labrador retriever that they believe was with him when the crash happened. Anyone who sees the dog is asked to call the Springfield Police Department.

Investigators are unsure if drugs or alcohol were involved. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
