ROSEBURG, Ore. – Douglas County Deputies, Roseburg Police and Oregon State Police responded to reports of a gunshot in a gun store Wednesday morning.
Officers say around 8 a.m., they received a call from an employee at the gun shop who reported a shot that had been fired inside the store.
The employee told police the customer had come in requesting to look at a handgun. He gave the customer an empty handgun to look at; but when he turned around briefly, he heard a single gunshot.
The employee ran out of the store at that time and called 911. Officers arrived in the area and set up a perimeter around the business and evacuated several employees from a few neighboring businesses.
A few minutes later an adult male with a large amount of blood on his torso walked out of the business. The male, a 91-year-old Roseburg resident, was detained and then immediately treated by medical personnel. The male had a single gunshot wound to his head.
Officers say there were no other customers or employees inside the business.
The investigation is ongoing, but it appears it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
