Man Intoxicated When Hit by Cars

EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene police say the man hit by two cars Tuesday afternoon had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Officers say the man is in critical condition after he tried to cross 7th Avenue near Madison Street without using the crosswalk. A car clipped him, he fell, then another car ran him over.

Police say they’re waiting for him to recover before they interview him.

“My very first question is going to be what happened? I’m not sure he’s going to know why he did what he did,” said Officer Michael Klews, Eugene Police Department.

Neither of the cars’ drivers face any charges.

The crash is still under investigation.
