SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A Springfield man walked into the emergency room at the McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center early Saturday morning and reportedly told hospital staff he killed his girlfriend. The man is now in jail facing murder charges.
Springfield police said they found 26 year old Casey Wright’s body in the boyfriend’s home near 18th and G street. Officers believe 32 year old Robert Cromwell killed Wright around 1:00 a.m., then walked to McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center.
Police would not release how Wright died, only that it appeared to be a result of domestic violence. “So many times we see these things as a progression of events that leads to something catastrophic and you know there’s plenty of things, agencies in Lane County to help women or anybody else who’s a victim of domestic violence,” said Sgt. David Lewis of the Springfield Police Department.
Cromwell was treated for minor injuries at the emergency room that police said were self inflicted.
Officers would not confirm whether or not Cromwell made any confessions to police, only that the department has probable cause that he did kill her.
