Man Runs from Police, Jumps in River

HartmanEUGENE, Ore. — Oregon State Police says a man attempted to take a very interesting escape route while running from officers.

OSP Fish and Wildlife tried to give 25-year-old Coty Hartman a fishing violation when they discovered he had a warrant out for his arrest, stemming from a burglary charge.

When troopers told Hartman he was under arrest, he ran. He jumped into the river near Valley River Center.

Police say Hartman thought he was going to drown so he came back to shore, where a trooper was waiting.
