Man Sentenced for Creswell Shooting

EUGENE, Ore. — A man suspected of being involved in a shooting in Creswell this summer will spend more than 11 years in prison.

Jessie Long, 27, pleaded guilty last Friday, just days before his trial was set to start.

Assistant District Attorney Erik Hasselman says it was a drug deal gone wrong, and though Long may not have been the shooter, his involvement must be addressed. Hasselman says even after his arrest, Long continued to run his marijuana business from jail.

“From the state’s perspective, we were hoping to go in and make a statement not just against this defendant, but others who are engaged in this type of activity,” Hasselman said.

Long has no opportunities for early release, and he’ll also serve three years of post supervision.
