EUGENE, Ore. — A Eugene martial arts instructor says he wanted to provide a public service for the community after hearing of recent sexual assaults in the area.
David Leung and one of his students offered free self defense training for women Saturday.
Dozens of women took advantage of the course and learned ways to protect themselves from potential dangerous encounters.
For the instructors of the course, Saturday’s lesson was a chance to draw attention to an important issue in Oregon.
“Well the goal of today’s course, number one, is to call awareness to the situations of violence against women in our community, especially in recent months,” said Leung.
The Leung Martial Arts Center also collected money for Womenspace and Sexual Assault Support Services.
