SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Mayor Christine Lundberg will deliver her State of the City address on Wednesday, January 16th.

The City of Springfield starts the new year off strong.

Last November, voters approved Measure 20-195, a five-year levy for Springfield jail operations and police services.

Voters also passed the Willamalane Parks and Recreation District Bond Measure 20-199. The bond provides $20 million over the next two decades to improve parks, trails and other natural wildlife areas.

Economic development continues to grow in the downtown area, but is there room for more improvement?

Mayor Lundberg’s 2013 State of the City address is Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Springfield City Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Watching the unwise (and unjust) dismissal of Chief Smith, it is easy to see what the “state of the City” is in Springfield: it’s a bunch of hypocrites (and probably a few vipers throw in to boot).

How can a city that pretends to respect it’s vital public safety employees treat Chief Smith like dirt after decades of devoted service, and all over a kiss between consenting adults?

Frankly, who cares what the Mayor says? Talk is cheap, and actions always speak far louder than words. Contrary to the decades of faithful action by Chief Smith in the service of the safety of the citizens of this city, the City Manager and the other politican’s actions are serving to bring only one thing to Springfield and that is disgrace.
