MECCA Offers Black Friday Alternative

EUGENE, Ore. — The Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts is hosting its third annual Create Something Day this Friday.

Organizers say it’s a greener, more creative alternative to Black Friday.

MECCA will provide all the old materials, tools and instructions to make new gifts. They’ll have a few guided projects including decoupage magnets, ugly dolls and friendly monsters made of fabric scraps.

“By repurposing materials and recycling and reusing materials that we already have on hand, we can make really thoughtful and meaningful gifts for ourselves, for our families and our loved ones. It’s a time to come together and make things instead of buy them,” said Heather Campbell, MECCA Executive Director.

The event is free and will run from noon to 5 p.m. in the 400 block of Willamette Street in Eugene.
