Medford Schools Reach Union Deal

Medford schoolMEDFORD, Ore. – The Medford School District has avoided another contract battle, signing a tentative agreement with their classified employees union, OSEA Chapter 15.

That union represents about 400 secretaries, maintenance personnel, food service workers and other non-teaching staff. Superintendent Dr. Phil Long says the last negotiations between the two sides three years ago were tense. But after a long teacher strike this year, he says they were able to come to a quick agreement.

“For the last several years, we’ve had monthly meetings with members of the OSEA Chapter 15 to talk through issues, and so a lot of the things that normally would have been a concern in bargaining, we had already been working on solutions,” said Long.

The district and the classified employees union had been negotiating since April. Their new, three-year contract goes into effect July 1.
