EUGENE, Ore. – Many Memorial Day events were planned all across western Oregon to honor the men and women who’ve fought for freedom.
The American Legion Post 3 is holding a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Eugene Pioneer Cemetery.
A memorial service is also scheduled at 12:30 p.m. at the Lane Memorial Gardens and will include military honors by the Oregon National Guard.
At 2:30 p.m., another service is planned at West Lawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
At the Eugene Masonic Cemetery, the Hope Abbey Mausoleum will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizers are hosting a history hunt called Find the Veterans and taps will be played in the public square at noon.
In Roseburg, a ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Roseburg National Cemetery’s VA Annex. The cemetery is one of 146 national soldier’s cemeteries in the United States.
In Springfield, two ceremonies honoring America’s fallen soldiers will take place.
The first will be a flag ceremony at 9 a.m. at the American Legion Post 40, on Mohawk and Eye streets. Mayor Christine Lundberg will be a guest speaker.
At 10 a.m. a ceremony will be held at the Springfield Memorial Gardens, 5305 Main Street, with military honors given to members of the Oregon National Guard.
